Weekend April 4th, 2014

Reading and Vocabulary: 
  • Pink Handout: Characteristics of Successful Language  Learners  (MUST DO)

  • Write a paragraph about your partner based on your in-class interview. 
  • Try to include a topic sentence ( main idea sentence)  that indicates YOUR IMPRESSION of the classmate you interviewed. 
  • ( e.g.  Michelle Morissette is a an enthusiastic, energetic teacher who has high expectations of her students. 

Grammar: 


1.  PARTS OF SPEECH REVIEW  ( handouts)  MUST DO
      practicing with nouns, verbs, adjectives etc.

2.  RULES/ ERROR CORRECTION BASIC GRAMMAR  
     a)  reviewing the rules of basic grammar at the word level.
     c)  practicing by correcting errors of specific parts of speech.

3.  The VERB PHRASE  ( MUST DO)
     Explanation, rules and practice ( including error correction)  of       the whole verb phrase (from one word to longer phrases)

                                             4.  VERB FORM CHART 
                                                As a review, try to fill in all five forms of the verb from memory.

 LEARNING STRATEGY: 

As you do this error correction THINK about which kind of "basic" errors YOU often make in your own writing.  Write the problem and the rule down on flashcards you can stick at the front of your binder.

IELTS  
Movie CLIPS and TRAILERS 

Trailers can be from 1:30 to 3 minutes long. Trailers are an excellent way to get an idea of what a movie will be about and whether you want to watch it or not.
 A  movie clip is a small segment taken from a regular movie. It is usually from 1:30 to 5 minutes.  A trailer is a short film clip that promotes ( advertises) a movie by showing many of the exciting events that you will see in the movie. Its purpose is to convince you to go and see the whole movie.  Trailers can be from 1:30 top 3  minutes long.  They are an excellent way to get an idea of what a movie will be about and whether you want to watch it or not.

Movie CLIPS and TRAILERS 

Trailers can be from 1:30 to 3 minutes long. Trailers are an excellent way to get an idea of what a movie will be about and whether you want to watch it or not.
 A  movie clip is a small segment taken from a regular movie. It is usually from 1:30 to 5 minutes.  A trailer is a short film clip that promotes ( advertises) a movie by showing many of the exciting events that you will see in the movie. Its purpose is to convince you to go and see the whole movie.  Trailers can be from 1:30 top 3  minutes long.  They are an excellent way to get an idea of what a movie will be about and whether you want to watch it or not.
